What Waylo does

  • Companion controller for Wylo smart-toy PCB — not a standalone app
  • QR + Wi-Fi device pairing, child onboarding, and AI character management
  • Firestore-backed toy logs with in-app audio playback of voice interactions
  • Daily/weekly mood and activity reports with sentiment charts
  • Freemium/Premium subscription tiers with Firebase Auth and push notifications

Waylo: background

Waylo is a React Native (Expo) mobile companion app that controls and monitors Wylo — a physical smart-toy device built on custom PCB hardware. Unlike standalone consumer apps, Waylo is the parent-facing controller: it pairs with the toy over QR scan and Wi-Fi, registers child profiles, and surfaces everything the hardware captures back to caregivers.

Parents authenticate via Firebase, then onboard a child with name, age, gender, interests, and language (English, German, French, Spanish, and more). Device pairing walks through a two-step QR + Wi-Fi flow. Character management lets families pick free or premium AI personas from a carousel, or upload a custom avatar — unlocking richer interactions on the physical toy.

The home dashboard aggregates live activity cards: voice interactions, video captures, daily and weekly reports, mood sentiment tracking, and health/sleep/study summaries. Toy logs pull Firestore records keyed by device MAC address, with in-app audio playback of recorded conversations. Reports use react-native-gifted-charts for daily and weekly usage line charts and emoji-based mood breakdowns. Subscription management covers Freemium and Premium tiers with Apple Pay and card checkout UI.

Built with Expo Router, Redux Toolkit + persist, NativeWind, Firebase Auth/Firestore, expo-notifications, and expo-av — shipping to iOS and Android from a single TypeScript codebase.
