Vibe

Vibe is a cross-platform React Native social discovery app built around proximity, lightweight flirting ("waves"), and personality matching. Instead of endless swiping, users appear on a live map, send a wave to someone nearby, and unlock chat only when interest is mutual.

The map layer uses react-native-maps with custom animated markers and real-time location updates via react-native-geolocation-service. An Android foreground service keeps location sharing active in the background. Profile preview modals open directly from map pins.

The standout feature is the Vibe Check compatibility engine — an interactive questionnaire with personality sliders (sport vs. sofa, shy vs. outgoing, night owl vs. early bird) and music genre preferences with per-genre sliders. An animated wave/oval UI built with D3 and SVG feeds into a VibeCheckComparison algorithm that scores personality (70%) and music taste (30%) to return a match percentage with human-readable reasons. A separate Sports Vibe Check covers ball sports, other sports, and skill levels.

Waves are stored in a Firestore winks collection — mutual waves create a connection and unlock a Firestore-backed real-time chat with unseen-message badges. A Socket.IO layer on AWS EC2 handles live map presence updates. Auth uses email/password with OTP verification, and rich profiles include photo upload/crop, mood, languages, zodiac, bio, and social links. Safety features include one-way block/disconnect, in-chat reporting, and age validation.
